Copper or Metals brake washers
I've been trying to get some, hard on a Sunday I know, but I was told they had metal washers rather then copper... So does it matter which type I use?
It just I know when I got the old rubber lines off they had metal washers, but the after market braided lines came with copper ones. Anyone help? |
Re: Copper or Metals brake washers
If you mean the washers on the banjo unions on your brake lines, they should by all rights be copper mate! They form a soft face between the banjo and the caliper/bolt head which 1) Won't damage faces and 2) crushes slightly to form a seal. Try Halfords, only place I can think of on a Sunday;)

Re: Copper or Metals brake washers
Oh, and some washers look silver as they are plated copper. If you are really stuck, re-use the old ones but only if you are really stuck, ok?:smt023

Ah that might be what the bloke at Halfords was on about when I rang, cool cheers.

Re: Copper or Metals brake washers
copper or aluminum is used for crush washer.rule of thumb is washer should be different material than fitting.aluminum fittings should use copper washer.stock steel fittings can use either.

Re: Copper or Metals brake washers
Suzuki use aluminium for the stock banjo washers where as aftermarket companies and many other manufacturers use copper. Either do the job perfectly and copper ones are easier to get hold of too!

Re: Copper or Metals brake washers
As above, aluminium, or copper will be fine, new ones very much preferable, old ones can be reused if filed smooth, provided they're not too rough.
Now write 100 times and bring to Soho: Copper IS a metal.... Copper IS a metal.... :smt021 (By hand, no copy & pasting, bloody IT bods, can't trust 'em) Jambo |
