Sunburn while riding

So I am off on a Europe trip in August. Has anyone burnt themselves whilst touring? Can you burn your face through a visor?

Ta!

I guess so, unless it has UV protection.

I lived in Cyprus for 3 years and never had any problems with sunburn. Enjoy your trip and ride safe. Where in Europe are you going?

Back of the neck is the most vulnerable.

I've burnt a little through my visor, but I burn pretty easy.

Plus one, either put some very strong sun block on your neck or wear a thin neck tube.

Very very good advice!

Lobster-red neck looks awful and is very very sore!

Can you tell I'm talking from experience here:D

One thing that concerns me actually with dark visors ... are they UV filtered?

Point is that if they are not, they are just dark, means your iris's will open the pupil to adjust to the lower light ... yet you are getting the same UV ... but your 'eyes' are actually open more ... this can't be good for your eyes/retina!!

We all know to buy UV sunglasses these days (although not many actually realise why ;)) .. but what about UV dark visors? ... I am a bit concerned by this myself ... I use dark 'tearoffs' as my visor darkener ... I'd be surprised if they were UV filtered!!

As for getting sunburn ... assuming you are wearing the appropriate gear, the only bits of skin exposed will be your face (through visor) and neck (back and sides mostly).

I managed to burn my neck a bit on the rideout on Sunday, will wear a thingymabob next time. Dunno about face yet, mine was burnt after half hour at the sodding pub. I'm so cool!

When i did north of france to south portugal a few years back, i did it at the worst time, in aug. It was very very hot. Even though it was hot, i kept my neck tube on, that saved the back of my neck, my visor was iridium tinted, but i put an additional tint on the insde as it would not have been enough otherwise. All was good and no problems. I still put some cream on my nose and back of neck just incase.
