Dumb Kids
I can't believe these statistics: Less than 30% of pupils in 20% of schools achieve less than 5 GCSEs. Not even a pass, just a grade!

GCSE's were easy when I was at school and they just get easier. I got 11 GCSE passes above C grade  let alone 5. I never did any revision and most of the times generally never did anything but **** about. Edit: I think the main problem is that these idiots who fail miserably then still get to go to univesity to do a completely random degree at somewhere like Derby University where you just have to beable to breathe to get in.........obviously they then cant get normal employment because employers arnt stupid........but the goverment is......so THEY then become teachers. It's a downward spiral like the rest of this country is at the moment. |

The pass mark for a GCSE maths paper is.....20%! Maybe they don't take it seriously enough. I propose they should be getting 5 GCSEs.... or a stoning. Any volunteers to stone the thick kids? |

I don't blame kids for not passing maths, becasue they don't want to learn it. Its just not taught very well; kids don't know what maths is used for (other than being able to count). If they could apply their maths to solve a real problem (i.e. I was taught trigonometry at school by all us kids going out and finding out the heights of the school buildings) then they might see why maths is usefull and learn it. I know there are some very good teachers out there, but due to the current 'desperation' of the government trying to get people into teaching anyone can get in. |

When I were a lad, we couldn't even take that many subjects. We had to do Maths, English Language and Literature and then 5, yes, only FIVE options. |
Re: Dumb Kids
Would it be better to go back to the; grammar; technical & 'special' school arrangement? Not everyone's academic, and we've a huge shortage of skills.
