It's under the tail pod on the right hand side and it's less than 15 minutes to swap. Check the wiring loom for chaffing too and add some spiraband as preventative maintenence.

Have you checked the charging circuit then?

I think a cheap wee Multi-Meter would do the job.

As far as changing the regulator/rectifier goes, it's not a difficult job - literally a case of a few bolts to remove the rear plastics, grab rail and pop out the pillion seat lock cable, and the regulator's as others have said bolted onto the right hand side of the frame under the rear pod. Two bolts and it's off.

PS - do you have a Haynes manual? Worth their weight in gold for stuff like this...

Its a simple check.

Take the main seat off (Remove the 4mm allen bolts in the small black things either side under the seat) then the 2 allen bolts holding the main seat on (5 or 6mm) There you will find the battery if you havent already.

Get a Multimeter of some sorts that will read DC volts and amps

Start the bike and put the multimeter on the terminals, it should read around 13.5-14.5 volts when running, and around 12.5 volt with the engine off.

Thats the basic test. If its higher when the bike is running then the the reg is kaput, if the voltage is lower when the engine is off, then the battery is kaput.

There are more tests in the Haynes.

Yup also try rev it up to 5k with headlights on and see hwat voltage you get.

Ok at the moment the battery is dead as i havent charged it since it went dead on me again...... once charged the bike should fire up..... where can i get a meter reader from...... once i have this meter reader then test the battery with it running and with it off..... if the battery seems fine then what should my next step be!

Thanks for your guidance guys.....

Maplin, Halfords or anywhere that sells car / electrical stuff really, in fact I wouldn't be suprised if Tesco are selling them now.
