Going to view SV650 - Advice please

Hi all,

I'm going to look at an SV650 tomorrow and assuming it's as described in the advert and pictures, I will hopefully be purchasing it. I passed my test on Monday so this will be my first big bike :)

Here is the general jist of the bike;

SV650 SK1
5 Owners - I'm wondering why so many?
13800 miles - Self serviced so no real service history
MOT til May 2009
Tax til September
No crash damage and never been dropped
Carbon can co exhaust
£1550

He's put a rear end from a GSXR on but he's supplying the OE seat fairing and exhaust. I think I'll put the original rear seat back on as I'm not a fan of the rizla sign.

It's advertised at £1650 but I've already said i'm travelling quite away and would he agree to knock £100 or so off subject to viewing. Seem like a good deal? Anything I need to look out for with these bikes?

Thanks for any advice :)

I have been looking round at bikes too....first of all, im not sure you should be too put off with 5 owners. Often bikes are bought to fill a space in the garage, and they do 1000 miles max. My uncle has a 1992 cb500, and it has done around 6k.

Secondly.....the rizla sticker needs to go! haha

Hope everything goes well for you mate... and welcome!

Well I'll be damned - I just did an HPI check and it returned the following;

Quote:

Alert Details

Condition alert
  • Recorded against
    VRM
    Description
    SUZUKI SV 650 S
    Date
    15/07/2003
    Category
    C - Vehicle extensively damaged but repairable - the insurer decided not to repair

The guy has owned it for 18 months so obviously didn't crash it himself. Not sure what the next step it. I could use it to get a massive discount and hope for the best or I could just walk away?

Had the same myself a few months ago. Best advice..... dont buy the first one you see, there is always a better one for less money around the corner. Have a look in the "For Sale" part of the forum. I know Yorkie Chris has one for sale atm.

HPIcheck.com and it was indeed ?20! I'm not sure if I'm happy that I did it. I could have gone without and had years of happy riding with that bike and an extra ?20 in my pocket! Ah well :(

A cat C bike should pose no problems- especially if it's been ridden for what, 5 years since the crash? Any major problems caused by the cat C are likely to have popped up by now.

£1600 is steep for a damaged repaired though dont you think?
