Strap-on-luggage: Heavy Load advice

I'm contemplating picking up two boxes of floor tiles on the bike. They're slate, and weigh in total 8 stones (55kg). Mindful that if they do come off, not only will they probably severely injure me and the bike, but more than likely anyone behind me also, how would you load them up?

I'm tempted to say:

Nonslip matting on pillion seat
Two uniform shaped boxes of tiles on top, laid flat on top of each other (300x300x250mm in total)
More nonslip inbetween the boxes
Bungeed left to right 4 times under the seat with tight bungees (not too tight to snap though)
Bungeed X-over 2ce each way
Bungeed any other way possible with any other Bungees
Cargo net
Gaffer taped up over the lot, round and round (keep it off the plastics, of course)

So I ask:
Am I mad, and should I just take the car?

46 miles, before anyone asks, mainly M25, M3

Thanks
Resident Loon.

Nah that be right, I'd be tempted to just put a ratchet strap round the lot though.

I think mad, if you have a car I would just take it  problem solved, no need to worry.

If they are genuine slate, there is a good chance that will snap the tiles. Slate tiles are not cheap, so would hate to arrive home with half of them broken....Take the car, place them in rear passenger footwells (one in each) to stop them sliding around.

I've just adjusted the title of this thread to make it clearer. You should be careful about being specific when you talk about anything that is strap-on.

Its only the fact its slate tiles I'd go with the car option, otherwise more or less what you've said about strapping it on :smt103 with the eclusion of the gaffer tape. Biggest problem I can think of would be where you anchor the bungee's/cargo net. Size of the object and the weight shouldn't come into it being as its smaller than a pillion and probably only the weight of an average female ;)
