is there enough room under cover to go up one tooth on front I want to improve my mpg a lil :D also would standard chain still fiit

I have a 16T g/box sprocket on my 2001 SVS. I fitted it after only a couple of thousand miles, and the standard chain was OK with the wheel pretty much near the front of the adjustment. It might depend on the exact model (naked/faired are different etc).

As for mpg, it makes very little difference in practice. I did it to make it feel a bit more relaxed on m-way/dual, which it does, and also it stopped me trying to find 7th all the time. On my K1 SVS it makes new 5th almost exactly half way between std 5th and 6th, and 6th becomes half a gear of overdrive if you like.

what size is standard? i want new chaind and sprockets but am worried if i go up one it wont fit

15T was standard on mine.

As a first guess, adding one tooth to a sprocket adds effectively half a pitch to the chain wrap (assuming it wraps around about half the sprocket). that half a pitch is made up of about a quarter pitch from each of the top and bottom run of the chain, so effectively moving the wheel forward a quarter pitch.

A 525 chain is 5/8" pitch, or about 16mm in new money, so the wheel will move forwards about 4mm. There's usually a bit more spare movement than that as new, but not an awful lot more.

The naked and faired gearing and swingarm (I think) are/were different, so I can't be definite. What exact model/year is your bike??

That'll be the same as my SK1 then, so if you're renewing both sprockets and chain it should be OK to go up to 16T on the front with a standard 44T rear and 108 link chain. There isn't a lot of spare movement, but enough.

Note that the chain length is different between naked (110 links with 45/15 gearing) and faired (108 links with 44/15 gearing)

The 650N swingarm is 10mm Longer than the 650S

650N models have 110 links and a 45t sprocket
650S models have 108 links and a 44t sprocket
Both models use a 15t front sprocket
