Re: multigrade fork oil ... wtf

It's just a description really, the "W" number is cold and the other is hot viscosities.
http://www.peterverdonedesigns.com/lowspeed.htm

All oils will have numbers for hot and cold, it just depends how the manufacturers want to describe it.

If my understanding of fork oils is correct (by no means for definite!), I think a 10W30 fork oil will be a quite high viscosity index (VI), and as such probably quite desirable. I think it would be in the same viscosity range as the Silkolene PRO RSF and Red Line Medium the author of the above seems to like. Basically the viscosity won't change as much as a "straight" 10W when it gets hot. Mind you, that depends where it starts off in the 10W range.

Others may be able to expand on this...........

you get them in every forum.. such a pity.. but you have to give them 10/10 for trying .. lol ... must be realy hard up and needing cash.. poor sole..

but its been removed .. if it was in this thread anyway .. coz its majicaly disapeered ... lol

back to the thread .. yup 10w30 would say between this and that temp range but as far as i am lead to beleve its not the temp range we are intrested in its the viscosity/thickness as far as fork oil is concerned .. or am i wrong

yes, but a 10W30 should have a viscosity which changes less than a straight 10W as it heats up (with bumpy roads) or simply with ambient temperature. Whether you or I would notice the difference is another matter..........
