Sprucing up my bike
Right, as you know, my bike is a little worse for wear. Main problems:
- dented rusted and scratched tank - bent radiator - bent footpeg - chipped grabrail Everything else, with some autosol and rubbing is in good nick. So now I see a pristine new K5 tank in YC2 colour for about £100, is it worth it to buy it? The opinion is that it would fit fine on mine with my K3 fuel pump, but if it won't please tell me! I could fix the grab rail and peg in an instant. Rad possibly with a lot more money buy a new one or something. But would it be worth the dosh? What is my bike worth now? What would it be worth if I replaced the crappy parts with good and gave it a clean? 30K miles, SV650 K3 |
Re: Sprucing up my bike
A litre of petrol splashed liberally over motorcycle with a source of ignition should sort out all your problems mate.
If I remember, your rad has the slightest of twists in it. Possibly able to straighten it, but of course your a bit stuffed if it goes wrong. A new radiator is going to cost you some serious cash. Possibly pick up a straight one on fleabay. Hundred quid for a pristine tank ain't so bad. But have you looked at the cost of a respray? Might be cheaper. |
Re: Sprucing up my bike
Just fixed my numberplate light! Got a part from a breakers off ebay for £8 in total :)
The tank is majorly dented as well remember, so a respray is not everything. I guess the whole thing revolves around how cheaply I can get a better rad. How much is the difference between a battered sv and a good looking sv though? £300? £500? £1000? |
Re: Sprucing up my bike
How are you going to fill in the chips on the grabrail?
I appear to err...have a similar problem |
Re: Sprucing up my bike
Sell it. Buy a better one. Job done :-)

There was someone mentioning a three layer spray paint bundle you can get for £25, might try that. Or see if there is a second hand one in better condition. Or you can get YC2 touch-up paint for lik £9 I think somewhere. |
