wtf is going on with my sv :(

ok well was riding home today, just overtook a car when i went to go up a gear n i went to rev n it felt like there was no power, so i pulled the clutch in to kick it down but as i did the gear lever spazzed out on my foot! then the bike revved it self up to 10/11k revs (wasnt touching the throttle and had the clutch in thankfully!) then it was fine and didnt do it again :S any ideas what the hell my bike is doing?

You have a Pointy yeah, was it raining? If yes then it may likely have been water in the front plug, can sometimes be persistent and sometimes a little niggle.

Hard to figure out what the hell went wrong there. Sounds like you (maybe) found a false neutral as you upshifted, rolled on the throttle and the bike continued to decelerate. Going from a false neutral back to a gear (in my limited experience) is not the smoothest action, I don't know about "spazzed out" but certainly it could clunk back in rather harshly, so I reckon that's what happened when you tried to go back down. The only bizarre point is the self-revving. If you weren't just outfoxed and put off by the gearbox business, thus not being aware of what your right hand was doing, then it could only be a throttle which is sticking somehow I reckon, but you would have noticed that at another time. My bet is that you revved it yourself because you thought you were going to be in gear, perhaps still found that false neutral and pulled the clutch in. Doesn't take much throttle to redline the rpm in neutral.

Anyway, check your chain tension and clutch adjustment first and foremost.

Or what DD said, although it wouldn't explain the "spazzing out".

I have a pointy that has played up in the wet (common problem) but I have never experienced it reving out and the gear selector hasn't done anything like that, it normally just runs on one cylinder and struggles to rev up at all.

True, that sounds like a missed gear.

Does sound like you may have hit a false neutral. Hence the lever "spazzing out"!

Yeah, false neutral and then occasionally (happens to me) the lever 'spazzes out', i.e., jumps repeatedly up and down when you try and find the gear below.

it had been raining before i set off but iv had a new plug n fender extender when i had problems with that, it did feel like a false neutral but i dont understand the revving without me touching the throttle? :S
