Beowulf 380m Coloured Titanium
Finally got around to fitting the damn thing, so...
First things, looks fit: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3061/...5e6c83.jpg?v=0 (N.B., this was taken while still positioning/tightening things up, so all the bolts are showing and the strap isn't set right, but haven't taken any pics since) Fitting was...interesting. The link pipe was VERY hard to get onto the stub of the original pipework, even with lubrication, to the point that when I discovered that the angle was slightly wrong, it was a fight to take it back off, and more of a fight to get it into the right position. Interesting to note is that, even though standard instructions say keep 5cm from the old weld, the link pipe only goes down about 3cm before not moving at all. Not really a problem, but I'd've liked it to sit right on the weld to look a little better (and can't be bothered cutting off a little closer). Next issue is that the strap wasn't very well shaped, and required about 20 minutes of rebending to get it to fit decently. Sound-wise, it's gorgeous. Lovely deep rumble and masses and masses of popping. Taking the baffle out made basically no difference, so it's been left in to appease Mr. Plod. Bike sounded amazing without a can on it, though...couldn't resist running it for a bit and scaring the neighbours ;) Also should note that it's smoothed out the mid-range quite a lot. There's no sharp pull at 7kRPM any more, because it pulls from 5k now. Riding the bike below 3kRPM is also much, much less juddery. Overall, stonking buy :D |

top choice :) I bought a standard stubby length oval can about 2 months ago.
Proper treat :) didn't have too much trouble fitting it although I did have to twist the can around a little bit to get the strap to fit. Link pipe was a slightly tight fit bit twisted that about as well to work it on. Sounds fecking mental without a can on at all dunnit! I ride with the baffle in as well, took it out for a track day but I honestly think it pulls a bit more with the baffle in. Having said that I noticed I was running out of revs quicker? so less pull but quicker acceleration? who knows :) |
Re: Beowulf 380m Coloured Titanium
sure it were the strap and not the way you were trying to fit it. I took my can off a few weeks back and couldn't understand why the strp wouldn't fit when i put it on...then when it was pointed out I'd hung it on the bolts wrong i felt like a right plonker. I'd put it either side of the bolt instead of both loops on one side...ooops
