Paint Code?
Hi All,
This is probably a really daft question, but i will ask it anyway... How do I find out my paint code? I checked the black (VIN type) plate on the frame earlier today, but nothing shouts out like an obvious paint code (and noting that matches the paint codes available from Banditmania either) Am I looking in the right place? The bike was sold as Grand Candy Blue, but I want to check before I go and order new paint for the 'Post Off' respray! Any help appreciated Cheers |
Re: Paint Code?
Two places to look
In the inside cover of the service book is a pink sticker, the paint code is on there. Alternatively if you lift the fuel tank and look underneath there should be a sticker on the bottom of the tank with the paint code on it. HTH |
Re: Paint Code?
Have a look the the service book, there is a pink sticker on the first page and it will say on that next to the colour name. Also it is written on a sticker under the tank, near the rear spark plug. Another option is it could be written on the V5, this is rare though but is apparent on both of mine.

you also need a silver undercoat for the earlier and i would imagine it to be the same for the latter.if you dont use the undercoat it will not cover very well and be too dark because the blue is translutant(?) i learnt this the hard way when i had a seat cowl sprayed, and sprayed again! |
Re: Paint Code?
My k3 is YC2, and I think my old k4 was YC2 as well.
Dunno about the undercoat though.... |

If it is YC2 (Grand Candy Blue), then I highly recommend www.paints4u.com, they were the cheapest I could find on the web, and have an excellent customer service. Ignore the 5 day delivery they published on their site - it came next day for me. I have used another well-known paint company, but found that it didn't match - it was darker. I've sprayed, both my undertray and belly pan in YC2. As YC2 is a candy, it is sprayed using a 3-part process (after primming that is). There is (1) a silver base ground coat, which is the actual colour. (2) The blue is translucent, and needs to be sprayed lightly over the silver, so that the silver can shine through. Once colour-matched, then (3) simply lacquer. You need to have a good eye, as I cannot tell you how many coats of blue go on - you have to judge the colour match for yourself. PS. Pegs in post.
