Broadband speeds

My current 8Mb broadband (Tiscali) is worlking at about 5Mb. That's fast enough for the likes of me but is it likely to change if I change provider or is it simply a function of distance from the exchange?

Looking at going with Sky because it's a tenner a month cheaper but I'd hate to swap 'good enough' for 'rubbish'

Any ideas/opinions?

Why has ADSL made it all the way up there when it cannot find its way to where I live?

hi T. Is your broadband cable or over the bt line? My 8mg with bt only gives me 2.7 ish when u talk to the provider they state distance from the exchange as the main reason. However to answer your question changing provider should not change your speed. By vision package requires min 3 mb to operate but assuming broadband won't affect sky+ as it's through the dish.

£10 cheaper? But the Tiscali in unlimited isn't it? With Sky the basic is 2MB speed with 2GB of download limits (or something like that). Make sure you compare like with like before you swap. I had tiscali but got BT instead as with Tiscali I was having troubles to log onto the network often and was without connection what so ever for 4 weeks at one point - which isn't good when working from home. Not such an issue with BT (yet). But then I do not know much about anything ;)

Sky's Max package is a tenner a month, up to 16MB (I think - mine connetcts at around 4MB) and unlimited downloads.
