Luggage advice please.

Hey folks, over the winter I wanna prepare my curvy for the touring I wanna do on it next year, highlands, then Europe hopefully, but I know nothing lol. So... luggage?

I wanna be able to carry a pillion still, I have a standard level fuel can, and an aftermarket undertray and tailtidy just incase it matters alot. I know there is hard and soft stuff out there, is either particularly better for a specific purpose? Regarding panniers, what do they fix to? I think top boxes fix to a sports rack, but the ones i've seen don't appear to accommodate panniers. Any brand/kit recommendations muchly appreciated.

Thanks, Tom.

Hi Tom,

We toured two-up all over Europe on our Curvy. We had a Givi top box and rack which we used just for touring, along with throw over panniers and a tank bag. We managed to carry enough stuff for ten days for the two of us.

See pic below.

When you say throwover, do you literally just throw them over, do they not fix properly to the bike? It is me or is that bikes rear end different around the pillion seat?

Did you also do it on standard rear suspension?

Thanks.

The panniers we have are actually triumph luggage and have a pad which attaches to the pillion seat, but we've used the throw over kind too. They're fine, as the pillion sits on the strap so they don't move.

Nothing different about our rear............maybe it's the Givi rack you're looking at?

We have done it on standard suspension, yes, and it wasn't that bad.

B*gg*r...............that was Lissa, not Pete!

Top box is really hard to beat... Not neccesary, but they're big, they're fit-and-forget (and they clip on in 1 second, no bungees needed), they don't come loose or shift around, and they're waterpoof. They're not very secure, but slightly better than a bag. They do affect the handling a bit with the weight being so high and so far back, it's like a pendulum, but not terribly so unless you fill it with heavy stuff

So do i need a sports rack for the box to clip on to? What's a good brand/type of box? Complete storage beginner, sorry!

Regarding panniers, how secure are the throwover ones? Would plastics be better? Or can you get ones that fix to the side of ya bike?
