SV650S vs SV650?

My wife's got a curvy 650S and is fed up with her wrists hurting,. We've been looking at the new sv650S's and there handlebar position seems to be higher?? is this correct or is it wishfull thinking on our part??
Failing that she's looking into a sv650, any thought welcomed

Nope handlebar on the newer pointy bikes never felt any higher than my curvey did.

Some things to try.

1. Get her to grip more on the tank with her knees more as it supports your weight a little better and results in less weight being taken on the wrists.

2. Unbolt the brake and clutch lever and re-allign them so that she has a straight line through her elbow and wrist onto the end of her finger tips. It'll save her twisting her wrists into an unatural position to get at the levers and thats IMHO the major cause of wrist ache.

I've never found any SVS made my wrists ache, my GSXR doesnt either unless I do alot of town work and that has a much more sporty riding position than the SVS does.

as fizzwheel said, try changing the angle of the brake and clutch levers.
This made a big difference to me - more than you might think.

If the above doesn't work you could always go for the ABM kit, brings the bars higher and closer back.....

... or swap the top yoke over from the 'N' model.

@ Dangerous Dave

Where's the best source for the ABM kit?

You're link to ebay in the "Hello ........and curvey handlebar risers, help" thread is dead now.

Mine has got some LSL bars on that came with the bike when I bought it. The riding position is OK but I feel you sacrifice a bit of aerodynamics with them. I am not sure if I like them yet.

Plus you also have to cut off part of the screen to get the higher bars to turn correctly again my bike came with this done can send you a photo possibly tommorrow if you want

i have a 2001 650s and my mates have a k3 and a k7 and i would say ther riding position is slightly more upright but probably not enuf to make a real difference if the wrists are that sore on a curvy

Just fitted Heli bars to my wife's 04 SV she says it is much better although it's only about 1.25 inches higher. They cost just over £200 but use all the stadard cables etc.

if your wife fancies a neck the size of a bulldog, then go nakid. I prefer the S, I've got DB screens on mine and they stop wind power, a nakid theres nowt to hide behind. As for bars, I hate the riding position on a nakid, but thats down to knackered shoulder, plus i prefer to slouch over the tank when tired. As Fizz says adjust the levers, and get her to relax more.I only get wrist ache on any of my svs after a good few hundred miles, or if I'm too tense
