gsxr front and flat bars
 

Hello all

I have a gsxr front end with clip ons, but now I'm thinking of putting on renthal bars. I remember reading that people have had problems with the top yokes cracking? I don't fancy paying out 120 odd quid for a "comfort" top yoke, so wondered if I could have risers welded onto the original yoke instead?

Also, am I going to find it uncomfortable with S rearsets on, should I change those too?

Depends how good or big the welding is... so if you dont mind it looking abit bodge it will hold up fine for driving, crashing/ dropping could possibly snap the welds tho.

not sure about the rear sets, ive got drag bars on my N and the normals feel a little to high so keep them and find out, itll be different for everyone.

I used an LSL top yoke to put Renthall bars onto GSXR forks. Expensive, but nice. I'm also using rearsets with that set-up and although it's a slightly sporty seating position it's certainly not uncomfortable. I'm 5'10" if that makes any difference.

Sean welding is not a good idea unless it is seriously high strength mate. I would reccomend as above with LSL. I almost drilled my CBR top yoke to fit the risers I have in my garage, never did incase I cocked up and weakened it or drilled a weak spot.

No. Do not weld to yoke, it'll probably warp or crack. Dimensionally important part.

I drilled mine, it's alright so far.

www.streetfighterstore.com do top yokes for 150 quid, which looks alright to me. I think my current top yoke is from a pre 2000 gsxr 750 and the forks are 2001. How far back are the yokes compatible? Some places only do the top yokes up to '99 as far as I saw.

Looks like this'll be quite an expensive little change if I do it.. :(

Dont forget cable lengths too Sean. I think it will look good when and if you do it though mate :)

I got peed off with taking a mirror off every time i got the bike out or put it away, so was thinking of putting normal mirrors on, which for some reason led to me thinking of this :p

By the time you add throttle, brake and maybe choke and clutch into the mix it's not a cheap option :(

Is it a curvy or pointy? I got away with the throttle cables on my K5 by running then down between the headstock and the front of the tank, but I've got 10mm risers in the front of the tank and I did have to make a modified bracket for the throttle body because of the new throttle cable angle. I did try getting longer cables but I couldn't find any "off the shelf" from another bike and getting some made specially seemed expensive, unless anybody on here knows differently.....?

I'm not quite following you ...how are the mirrors attached at teh moment?

Anyhoos ,how about getting a clutch perch off an SV650N and for the brake side, just buy the part the mirror screws into....suzuki sells them seperate. Tip: Get one off an SV1000N.

If you want the bars higher but still involving less hassle, you could try sourcing some clipons off a Ducati 750SS(can't remember what year right now but you want blackish coloured non- Ally ones). The Ducati clipons give fully adjustable clips to boot ;)

Oh, get a pic of you headlight bracket, side on and I'd tell you if my tip above(re clipons) would be any good.
