Excercise without bending your knees?

Apart from swimming, suggest anything else that I can do to get fit which does not involve using your knees in any way.

For those that do not frequent the running thread, my knees are currently knackered.

cross trainer - that what i got told to do when i buggered my right knee
had to strap it up before doing it and very gently
i wasn't allowed to go swimming.

thos i suppose it depends on what you've done to it

Marathon or sprint kayak? Open cockpit, little strain on knees, great for a body workout. This kind of boat...

I find it hard to 'run' as such. But I find the crosstrainer at the gym much easier on the knees.

and not that easy to stay upright in unless you used to sitting in a kayak quite abit.

I always remember the first marathon boat I went in, quick as hell in a straight line until you want to turn.

Any Kayak would give you a good workout.

I'm currently on a course of physio trying to rectify the issue with my knees. The physio is very very low impact stuff. More stretching and stuff than anything else.

My knees keep dislocating and the idea is to retrain the muscles to pull the kneecaps back in line so they run back and fore as they should. When I say exercise without the involvement of my knees, I mean no involvement at all.

The Kayaking thing sounds good, but not exactly something I have to hand that I can do every night. No boat for starters.

Try a local club? Most well established clubs will have one or two of type of boat to get folks started - it might be a scratty, leaky thing but might be an option.

Well that would give me arnie type muscles I guess. but not exactly get me fit. Do you know of any hand bikes around Newbury? Don't remember seeing one in the local gym.
