What is it with MODS

Why does the average motorcyclist spend so much on his bike?
After spending stupid £££s on my DRZ i bought a new SV thought oh well its bigger and faster wont need to change much on it
Well its now 6months old has a smaller plate, tail tidy, crash bungs, fenda extender, hugger, ccc exhaust, k&n filter, suzuki top box(not always fitted) avon storms and my handguards arrived today
Thing is im still looking at wavey discs, braided lines, front springs, yosh remap and about a 1000 other options
I BLAME YOU ALL

Makes them look, sound and go better.

I try and resist spending to much.....inevitably its going to slide down the tarmac at some point, the more you have spent on it the more its going to cost to fix.

I always say to my dad that i wnana fit a new shock and fork springs. He always tells me dont bother, im better off saving my money and putting it towards a new bike. He says he knows I love my bike and I dont wanna get rid of it....but once I have a go on his GSXR I'll come to realise that my bike handles like a common house brick

The damn cheek

well, I say its MY SV and I'm gonna get a hagon shock at least, if not front springs too! and it'l handle better! Sure, its no GSXR, but then if i want a bike that handles like a GSXR I'd take my dads bike....right?

and so what if it handles poo, I have a topbox and he dosnt

I was in two minds on whether to mod the sv650 or get a ss600. Bike far exceeds my capabilities at the mo and insurance on cbr6rr is twice as much as my sv so I'm going for suspension mods and aesthetic bits and bobs. Its a SV4S.

What I dont get however is people buying a brand new SV and throwing a grand or two at it when they could have bought a better bike in the first place. Hmm.

etuna, thats a brilliant argument. I'll tell my dad that, about the insurance cost. A Hagon shock might add a few quid on my premium...it'll still be cheaper than a GSXR600

That's why it's only £4k from your dealer.

Firstthink you do is spend a grand on extras that you would have got if you bought a second hand supersport :p

Not as much fun though. Nothing like a good bit of spannering!
