Bike idle struggling
Hey all
After reading some previous threads today, I was motivated to investigate the bike! Not had time to read it for the last week so fired her up a moment ago. Due to being bludy freezing! I had the choke on, after 15-20 seconds went up to a steady 4k rpm so took it off. However noticed the bike sounded a bit strange and got to 1500 rpm then dropped under 1k and stalled, 3 attempts later took it for a ride to warm her up. At some lights the bike (no choke!) had a idle of 2300 rpm  So will be adjusting that later, but what was strange the rpm kept dropping like... 2300rpm 1400rpm border line 1000rpm almost stall back to 2000+ and vice versa So the rpm without choke and after a 25 minute ride wont keep steady and smooth and seems be almost stalling yet bouncing up and down more than a fat kid and cake :smt113 Any help would do! |
Re: Bike idle struggling
you need to get the choke cables out, clean and lube them, then check for air leaks around carbs etc-when was your bike last serviced?(big one)

Re: Bike idle struggling
I think that someone is going to come along and say clean your choke plungers out but I have not had the joy of doing that yet so can not advise :p.
I'v heard that these can cause bad idle as they get stuck open. Another thing to do would be balance your Carbs but not the ones you eat! :D Someone will let you know. Oops see beat me to it!!! |
Re: Bike idle struggling
Ive had similar problems. and would suggest you look at the choke. Although tbh yorkie chris is possably the best person to speak to.
the choke plungers stick aparently so i have took to turning the bike over a few more times and not using the choke. Seemed to work this morning and the ride was great afterwards |
Re: Bike idle struggling
Will give it a check 2moro, off to scare some kiddies tonight me thinks :smt070
Last major service, I dont have a clue, only had the bike a month now and mileage is high (44K) but looking at the service book the previous owner gave me, the last stamped one he got was 1/2/o6 :-| that was when the bike was at 32k mileage. Lovely... |
