Hello from Aus!
 

Hey there,

I'm in Aus and recently purchased myself an '03 650N, and i'm loving it http://forum.svrider.com/images/smilies/cheesy.gif it's my first upgrade from the little bikes (not sure if you guys have the same restriction laws as over here... and esp. in the ACT)

so, i've mainly joined here to ask advice on a venture i'm tentatively considering... i bought my bike from an insurance company as an 'economic writeoff', the damage done was considered more than the insurable value of the bike. so i go it for less that what a second hand from a dealer would cost http://forum.svrider.com/images/smilies/grin.gif and still only cost me about $AUS600 to fix up, as long as you don't mind a couple of minor scratches which aren't really noticeable (i think they add character http://forum.svrider.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif) lol.

Now, along with the scratches came some really rather nice upsides. the previous owner had obviously given her lots of care and attention before crashing it. such as; LeoVince muffler (sounds awesome, i recommend it), braided lines, and some very schmick pilot power tyres.

I am at this point considering putting a fairing on the front, for a couple of reasons.
1) it's been quite windy here lately, being spring atm, which makes it VERY windy riding, anything long distance will be draining... so i primarily want a windscreen. i have only had naked bikes, and think i'd like to try a windscreen
2) my bf has been converted http://forum.svrider.com/images/smilies/wink.gif he currently has a few bikes, and is considering retiring his duke 750SS for an SV1000. he is thinking about getting an N as well. and i'm sorry, but there is NO WAY i'm going to match my bf's bike http://forum.svrider.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif lol.

so. due to the aforementioned pluses to this particular bike, i'm considering converting her rather than trading it in for an S. plus, i quite like the handlebar setup on the N, not all that keen on clipon's. i've read on the interwebs that this can be done, and that the nose piece will just bolt onto the frame of the N, but haven't found anymore info.

so my questions are:
1) has anyone done this here?
2) can anyone foresee any problems which might occur?

The entire SV650S front end can be attached to a SV650N, it is an indentical frame.

This is a AMB comfort kit, but you get the idea...

That's awesome! thanks :) pretty much just what i want

just looking at that picture though, it looks like the dash has been disconnected and remounted into the fairing? is that right? i wasn't sure if this would have to happen, or if it would end up being like a GS500F where the dash moves with the bars within the fairing...
can you tell me where this pic is from? i looked up AMB comfort kit, and came up with ABM comfort kits for superbike conversions :confused:

I am already a member of SVdownunder.com too :) but they couldn't tell me much so thought i'd ask elsewhere :p

hmmmmm....

had a look at the website the pic came from. it's actually already an S, but has been converted into the N's handlebar setup. i want vice versa almost, but only with the fairing and headlights...

Hey, I'm looking at doing something similar here too. I'm pretty sure you will have to take the clocks off and remount them in the centre of the front fairing mount, the rest of the bikini fairing bolts onto this too and the whole thing then bolts on to the front of your frame. The yokes are different (not 100% if you can mix S yokes and a N stem but if anyone knows let me know...) on the S but if you're not looking at changing the bars on your N you shouldn't need to worry.

sweet. thanks :) i'm going to take it down to the Suzuki guy here in canberra and get his opinion, see if they can help source parts... and i think it'll be a good idea to get the suspension looked at afterwards. it's not a huge change, but my front is a bit soft anyway, so worth a look.

i'll update how it goes with mine for you :)
