Moving music & picture files
Having purchased a new computer with Vista I would now like to transfer my music and photo's from my old PC that has XP as the OS. I would like to invest in a portable external drive (I already have one in mind) to assist me in this.
So, what I want to do is put all the files from the old PC onto the portable external drive. As they will be coming from an XP OS, will I be able to use them with my Vista machine? What I am concerned about is when I by the drive do I format it to the relevant OS...this would mean that I stick my xp driven files on the external drive and then can't use them on my vista...is this making sense? I know what I'm trying to say.... I think the answer is yes - you can. However, it's always worth asking those that know better... This is the one I'd like to get... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digi.../dp/B0012IOHVM |
Re: Moving music & picture files
It'll work fine. The format of the external drive isnt operating system specific. I.e if XP will read it then Vista will to.
Might be worth formating it with Fat32 rather than NTFS though. Otherwise you might get security / permissions issues, but thats probably over complicating matters... |
