Chain rust
The winter is here, and with it, rust!
Im not using the bike much, maybe once or twice every 2 weeks, and its kept outside. The chain in lubed nicly but still seems to rust alittle on the plates, not the rollers. Anything I can do to stop this? Its only surface rust, but Id rather not have it. Cheers |
Re: Chain rust
Clean the chain a rub some ACF-50 on the plates with a cloth.

Re: Chain rust
Or just ride the bike a bit more :)

Re: Chain rust
I feel i must elaborate on Daves comment.
ONLY rub the chain plates in ACF. Dont let the ACF get into the rollers at all. If in doubt read the can :P Dont spray onto any friction related parts. I have a similar problem, the inside plates are rusting on my chain, as the lube i spray on only ever gets onto the outside parts and not the inner facing parts. |
Re: Chain rust
If its just the plates don't worry about it. Its just surface rust and will do no damage. Rust can form in a matter of hours.
If your leaving a period of time then cover the whole chain in engine oil, then just give it a wipe down before riding next. |
Re: Chain rust
cheers for the tips guys.
