how big is under seat storage??
just wondering how much space is under the rear seat, so i could judge if a chain will fit in so i dont have to carry a bag around all the time!

Re: how big is under seat storage??
ERRMM how big is this chain.
I can fit a disc lock (as it slides down to the battery box ), and a pair of gloves and thats about it full up. So only a small chain in reality. |
Re: how big is under seat storage??
Depends on the chain. I've got one of these under mine:
http://www.cyclesuk.com/1011/156-472013 It's a toy compared to my Almax, but it'll deter opportunistic and "ride away" thieves. There's also space for a sidestand puck and scottoiler in there at the same time as the chain if you put it in carefully. There are some scare stories about the undertray falling out and the chain wrapping itself around the back wheel, but I've done this for over 3 years without a problem. NB: My bike is a K4, with the stock snow plow and undertray and I check that the undertray isn't loose as part of my servicing. |
Re: how big is under seat storage??
how long is that chain? if yours is the pointy sv will there be much difference in the curved original version??

Re: how big is under seat storage??
Depends on your bike, if you have a Thundercat or a 2000 Fireblade you have enough room for oxford monster chain, disklock, bottle of water, sunglasses and toolkit.
If you have an SV, get a bag ; ) |
Re: how big is under seat storage??
you can easily fit something like an "oxford hardcore" or something similar in the rear underseat bay. But if you have an alarm in there or some other electrical gizmo you wont fit much if you keep the tool kit in. I have a punture repair kit, expanded toolkit and a lock in mine.

Re: how big is under seat storage??
well i put my deposit down on an sv today so i guess you could say i have one :D but you say i can fit the oxford hardcore chain in there?
|
Re: how big is under seat storage??
yeah.. or something similar.. lots of locks are of similar dimensions, its just a matter of folding it in carefully really rather than expecting it to just fall in there haha :)
Its best to install an alarm elsewhere rather than under the seat anyway so that opens up some room. Other than the lock i would just put a few extra tools in the toolbag to make sure you can attend to most small problems. And a nice puncture repair kit fits snugly under the seat lock. |
