I was reading though a ZX7R service manual, realy impressed with the level of diagnosis they go into, try finding that in an SV manual :)

alright, pick up a service/workshop manual from 96 or so and compare it to todays ones, they have way more diagnosis info

prolly part to do with disposable society

As has been said before, it's due to more bikers being the weekender type applying the "car dealer service" mentality to their bikes.
