removing bar ends.
 

this may seem like an easy question however i need to remove my bar ends to fit the heated grips, however they are held on by screws which are jammed and in trying to remove them i have very successfully started to round one off, so here goes, how on earth can i get seized screws out when one is rounded???

any ideas??

This one came up recently I think.
Mole grips are the way forward I'm afraid and then either repaint the bar ends or buy some nice shiney ones.

Can you grip it with anything?
If so you might be able to turn it that way.
If it has rounded quite a bit you could try a star drive (they never work for me but they are ment to).
To be honest just about every bolt/screw I have had to remove since having the bike has been jammed in and rounded off. In the end the only things I have found to work are drilling (might not be a good option in this case), or hammer and flat head screw driver and chapping it round, problem with this is that it can shear the head off if you’re not careful.

Drill the head of the bolt off, it is a counter sunk bolt, and the bar end will slide out over the bolt thread. Then bend the bolt and you will have the leverage to remove it. Replace the bolt with a stainless steel one if possible, use plenty of copper grease and a little dab of thread lock on the end (the reverse to what Suzuki do).


It can work, but bear in mind the bolt and the bar end are not actually attached to each other as the bolt simply runs straight through the bar end. You could damage a bar end for no good reason.

Or you could try the options above :)
I myself will distroy them as I'm going to fit shiney ones

yeah used the molegrip option worked a treat and didnt mark them too much, but saying that they arnt exactly in the best condition anyway!!

I had a similar problem but before I rounded the end off using the tool roll screwdriver I went to Halfords and got the biggest Phillips they had, extra leverage and perefect fit made all the difference with monkey metal screw.

If I had an impact driver I would have used that though.

I've just got mine off tonight, tried last month but they were well stuck. Got myself an Ingersol Rand air impact driver for Christmas though :cheers: - that did the trick!

Question - are the bars solid, or are there threaded bits in the end of the bars which come out? My old CBR had a removable threaded honda bung in the ends, but the SV seems to be one piece? Is that right?
