V-Power / Super Unleaded
Is it worth running the bike on higher octane fuel?
Will it make any difference to the performance? What are you guys filling up with? |
Re: V-Power / Super Unleaded
In short, no. I use standard.

Re: V-Power / Super Unleaded
Use the more expensive stuff every now and again. Only to give the bike a treat, don't make much difference IMO. I usually fill it up with Vpower etc when they've been stood a while, don't know why, perhaps I'm tricking myself into thinking it will help it along its way after leaving them with half a tank of crap for a month or two

Re: V-Power / Super Unleaded
You need a knock sensor, the new BMW's and Scoobies have them. SV's don't.
Though there are a lot of cleaners and other things in the fuels so they burn better, and even helps with carb icing so you do get a better tank range but it all balances out with the additional cost. I found that Shell Optimax was the best for cost and benifits, the BP stuff was just stupid expensive and didn't compare as well. If your really bored there is a hole load of it on my blog from the testing I did. |
Re: V-Power / Super Unleaded
some bikes tend to run better, but only because the higher octane fuel is slightly cleaner than the normal one.

yes and maybe/no. yes for my bmwr1100s (or for any of the bmw BOXER bikes) id not use anything BUT super unleaded. it really does make a difference!:batman: maybe/no as it varies dependant on bikes, some run better with it, some it barely noticable.. others u may has well of not bothered. :smt115i normally give any bike that is new to me a test (a few successive tankfulls of the good stuff~ to run it through the system) and go from there. |
Re: V-Power / Super Unleaded
My experience of it in my K4 was that I got marginally higher MPG from it, but the difference was so slight it was nowhere near worth the extra cash. The "backside dyno" noticed no increase in BHP.

Re: V-Power / Super Unleaded
i've no scientific evidence to back up my claims, but my curvy seems to suffer less from carb icing when it's filled with super unleaded.
