Re: speedo problems
Where did you buy it from? Was it like this from when you bought it?

Re: speedo problems
That's weird... it's not that uncommon for the speedo to stop entirely but reading half... TBH I can't even figure out how that would happen through a part failure, not to be consistently half.
I'm sure the 2005 has the 4-trigger speedo (post-ABS SVs seem to have an 8-trigger speedo, the part number is different, if you fitted an earlier speedo drive to one of those it'd read exactly half). Hmmmmm. Has it been accident damaged? I suppose there's an outside chance it's got more recent clocks fitted... But that's not exactly likely, it's just the only explanation I can think of. Check and see if the bits look standard... It might have some nonstandard speedo parts involved, an aftermarket speedo pickup or something. Or a speedo healer fitted, for some mad reason. |
Re: speedo problems
i brought the bike privately!!as far as i can tell the bike has never even been dropped it's in realy good condition been well looked after fsh, i never even noticed the problem untill a couple of days later!!.taking the front wheel off sometime in the next week to cheak the rotor.rev counter is fine and all parts look standard and in good condition! bit of a head scratcher at the moment.thanks for the help.

Re: speedo problems
Ah well. I wouldn't pay too much attention to my brainstorming up there in that case, it IS a possibility, and the only one I can think of off the top of my head, but it doesn't strike me as a likely chain of events.

Re: speedo problems
Someones buggered the rotor taking the wheel out, and replaced it with the wrong one.

Re: speedo problems
If you 'lost' half the magnets, you'd register half the speed & distance.

Re: speedo problems
Keep it as it is. If you get done for speeding you can say the speedo only said 60!! ;)

Re: speedo problems
As yorkie says,
You need to get a new speedo rotor for the K5 as someone has replaced it with a K3 one. The rotor is on the left side of the wheel. A new rotor from Suzuki is about £16. I only know this as i had the opposite problem [reading double] Good luck. Tony |
Re: speedo problems
Ah, so 05 has the 8-trigger then? I thought that changed in 07.
