Advice on becoming a courier?

Pretty much due to my degree only taking up 4 hours a week and only working weekends, i am increasingly finding myself sitting around bored. Because of this i want to earn some extra money and preferably doing something i enjoy hence where a motorcycle courier came from. Was jsut looking for some advice from anyone that has done it in the past as to what is expected of you, how easy it is to get the job, what they will look for etc before i go round applying.

Many thanks.
Ash.

Advice I got when I asked Jester666 was "Dont!"

Good advice from Jester IMO.

1st problem you'll find is getting insurance I reckon.

Stay away from cab companies that run a token bike courier service, as you'll sit around all day whilst the cabs take all the packets in the boot.

Your licence will suffer as a consequence of your job too.

If you want to still go ahead try these guys

how will my licence suffer?? And why would insurance be a problem? would it rocket up?

Your licence will suffer because you'll be rushing around trying to meet impossible deadlines, so speeding becomes a way of life and with all the "safety" cameras etc it's only a matter of time before you pick up points.

Mention that you are a motorcycle courier to most insurance companies and you'll hear gales of laughter, rubbing of hands and till bells ringing. Before they put the phone down!. :(

I think it's something to do with most insurance companies having small print "The bike shall not be used for business in the form of a courier, taxi or other delivery services" or words to that effect.

As for license suffering, i think they mean you'll be riding through city centre's to tight deadlines, so you're more likely to get done for speeding/daft stuff?

I have never been a courier. But if you do, I guess - and it is only a guess - that you will end up hating your bike.
