Flitering accident from U Turning car (youtube)
Nothing to see in the first minute if you want to fast forward.
Then note how slow the GSXR is overtaking, but fails to take an avoiding action at 1:15 when the focus makes a wide swerve to the left before U turning. Admittedly the Focus pulled a stupid stunt and I can't believe he could see if there were any oncoming cars hidden by the large truck in front of him. Overall I think this is a great video for showing how quickly things can go wrong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...SzpLfEpw&gl=GB |
Re: Flitering accident from U Turning car (youtube)
granted a fairly obvious movement by the focus driver, however i've seen cars dive for the verge when filtering on roads like that when they see you approaching and might not have twigged it myself
it does indeed show how fast things can happen edit: an indicator from the driver might have stopped this from happening in the first place... |
Re: Flitering accident from U Turning car (youtube)
Yeah, I think the first thing you notice is that thanks to the slow filtering speed, the biker and passenger seem to be relatively unharmed. That in itself is fairly important. As to whether one would notice the car was about to do that, its hard to say really. It was obviously an extremely bad maneouvre by the car, not checking any mirrors or anything. Its hard to see how swerved left it goes, it might have just been sitting to the left letting bikers past, that's what one might think.
So if this was admitted as evidence for an insurance claim, how would they aportion the blame? |

Re: Flitering accident from U Turning car (youtube)
Please don't think I'm suggesting I would have twigged & avoided this, I was just trying to point out with the aid of hindsight & video what, if any were the signs, TBH I would have been going so much faster that I would have overtaken the Focus long ago  or flying further down the road :(
I would like to think with a decent solicitor would be able to put the case that the biker was filtering so carefully that there was nothing he could do & win 100% |
Re: Flitering accident from U Turning car (youtube)
+1, although you could say the cager was doing something a bit wierd beforehand and that should have rang alarm bells I don't think there is any blame at all towards biker

Re: Flitering accident from U Turning car (youtube)
I'm not certain that its quite as clean-cut as it makes out - that looks like a solidly marked split, so if you're willing to go into that region you'd probably be better off making yourself more visible and being wider. I didn't bother with the audio, but maybe there would be an opportunity for a blast on the horn as well when the car moved left, as its fairly clear that the bike hasn't been seen.

Yes, I like to go as wide as possible when i am not protected from U-Turninng cars by oncoming cars |
Re: Flitering accident from U Turning car (youtube)
Someone did the exact same move earlier in the week. No indicator, no mirror check and moved left before slamming the car around in the road. Very dangerous!
Just have to be careful I guess and sometimes it's luck with not being at the side of the car when it happens |
