Old style SV 99-02 is known as a curvey (because it is curvey!) and the newer style SV 03-08 is known as a pointy (because it is pointy!)

Some misguided people think curveys are better than pointys! ;)

Pointy = SV2003 onwatds - like the one in the picture at the top right of your screen on the extreme right- the best looking one

Curvy = SV2002 backwards - the blobby mess facing the pointy in the same picture above.

Then there is the new Glady = the 2009 replacement for the naked SV.

Image at the top right hand corner of this page... Bike on the left is a Curvy (old shape SV650) and the bike on the right is a Pointy (New Shape SV650).
