Jackets with airbags!

Looks like it could be a good thing, although i wonder how many people would set them off by accident.

i like how you're not legally required to wear anything but a helmet and they're calling for jackets with airbags to be made compulsory...

Well Bear has - cos Stu has one

Was VERY funny watching Stu as it inflates to the point that he was basically sat on his bike, unable to move from the waist up until jacket had gone down a bit.

And as the cartridges are fairly cheap to replace, the temptation would always be to carry some spares and then just "pop" peoples jackets at comedy moments and just hand them a cartridge - they cant really complain at that :p

aha you beat me to it Mr L3nny and heard it on radio 1 :-)
Looks a good idea but compulsory? Are people gonna want to fork out so much dosh even though it's for their own protection? Gear is costly enough but then again you can't put a price on life

20% of deaths of the roads are bikers :-(

And we make up 1-2% of traffic on the roads! I hate that statistic. :(

If someone could prove to me that they are indeed safer and are definitely not going to do more harm than good, are practical, and they aren't going to be OTT expensive then I'd be interested in replaceing my textile jacket with one (I take it they haven't made decent leathers with them.).

You can't really complain, internal injury (spleen bladder etc.) was a major worry for me in my crash they said I was very lucky. (although I did have a track protector vest on that has some slight padding in that region). Spine and neck were also a worry..well for some of the paramedics one ragged my leathers off and the other one was terrified that I hadn't been strapped to a board yet. They are common, dangerous injuries so if a jacket protects them more than you're average it can't be a bad thing.
