New indicators fitted - not working right.
 
Hi all i have just fitting some new led inaictors to my bike but only 1 side is working right 1 side as full led and the other only has 3 working swoped the wiring round an the other one works an the other has 3 working please help cheers

Are they Motrax? Mine do this when the engine is off. Altho, both of mine do it - not just one.

they are all working now but i think they are on speed flashing way to fast

You need a different flasher unit in.

Or a few pence worth of resistors.

Its been covered before but LED indicators flash to fast and you need to wire in a resistor and that sorts it. I cant remember why or the exact technicalities of it, but if you do a search you'll find plenty of threads on the subject.

they came with the inline resistors which i have installed

Individual LEDs generally run on around 1.4 volts with a fixed current, typically around 0.02 to 0.04 amps per LED. If you connected one directly to a bikes 12V supply it would fry instantly, so a resistor is connected in series to limit the current through the LED.

Unfortunately, the flasher circuit has a clever feature. It uses the current through the bulbs (typically 0.5 to 1 amp) to determine the frequency, the idea being that when one bulb fails it flashes faster to warn you. If you replace your bulbs with LEDs you're using a lot less current, so the flash rate increases.

There are two ways around this. Either replace the flasher unit with one that's suitable for the low current drawn by LEDS, or stick a 33 ohm 10 watt resistor across the LEDs to draw enough current for your existing flasher.
