Binoculars

Looking for a set of binoculars, but have no idea what to look for, I know about the magnification and lens sizes but not sure what brands or models are worth considering

General use, must be compact and fairly easy to carry around with you, looking to spend £50-100

Any optics experts on here?

Bizarrely I have just bought a pair this morning! Anyways, this place is good http://www.scopesnskies.com/.

Have a look for some with BAK4 prisms if you can. I just got some Bresser Zoom ones, but didn't want compact ones, but there are compact ones on the site.

8x42 magnification is the best for general use but really depends what you're planning on using them for. I do a lot of birdwatching so a fairly large field of view which lets lots of light in is ideal for that. If you're a peeping Tom then I should imagine you'll be less fussy :-P

too pricey unfortunately, £100 is the absolute limit and there'd have to be some compelling reason to pay it over a £60 pair for example

Ah ok. What about these? You get a free rucksack too! :-P http://www.ukoptics.co.uk/bushnell-h...ars-p-903.html

Or there's a few cheaper ones in google search perhaps? http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=...lars&scoring=p

seem quite heavy compared to say, the Bresser safari line:

http://www.scopesnskies.com/prod/bre...fari/8x25.html

they both have BAK4 prisms and multi coated lenses, is there anything about the bushnells that make it worth jumping to the £100 priceband?

The reputation? However the ones I've linked you to are really more for underwater stuff but again depends what your mum would be using them for.

I have these atm and I really like them, currently borrowing them off a birding pal but they seem pretty cheap! Light and easy to use.
