£30 helmet. Get one or not?

I've seen a Roxter £30 helmet and I'm seriously considering getting it. Trouble is that every time I almost click on the link I hear the old "riders who have a £30 head should get a £30 helmet" adage.

Last year I sold my Arai Quantum along with my bike and since then I've been using a 10 year old Shark Fz600 lid which desperately need changing. Due to smell if nothing else.

What applies here, then? Snobbery or practicality?

The lid is listed at £70-odd but is actually £30

I'd be most interested in your opinions.

It's totally your call...
The helmet will/should do it's job if it's been approved.

plenty og £29.99 helmets... but pay more money, get better features (perhaps) and more comfort and better safety.

Obviously, try before you buy for sizing and what not.

Is that just another name for the fibreglass used for the lid, or is this a reason to avoid...

Incidently I go with Nicky S either way. I ride an 8 year old bike, and don't have the spare cash to update - just to keep it serviced and safe. I still ride with saftey gear costing more then the bike - and if I didn't have the cash for the gear would stop riding until I found it. whenever I need new gear I do lots of searching (and asking here for advice) and go at it that way (and remember that conversely expensive doesn't always mean good either...)

Check out any reviews about the lid in question, might tell you whether it's a complete waste of time purchasing one. If you're skint and don't mind reduced comfort then get it but don't expect hugely reduced wind noise and fogging up of visors :-P

I can't make up my mind at all. My Arai Quantum F was just under £400 and is to date the noisiest, poorly-fitting lid I've owned. (incidently, the comfiest by a long shot was my 1993 Bell), as previously posted, I'm using a 10 year old Shark Fs600 which is a bit smelly. OK, more than a bit!, but it fits really well.

Here's what I'm looking at:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=290299109954

and:

is there much to choose between them or are they both a no-go?

cheers

Paul

I seem to have a funny shaped bonce and the only helmet that fits me comfortably is the hjc cl14-i've tried most other makes but none are as comfy as the hjc-better to have a helmet that fits you 100% than one that doesn't but costs 10 x as much.
