BEST SV to start racing on
any advice on the best sv (year/model)to start mini twin racing on? i would prefer to go for the naked (no fairing) look, to keep costs down...
cheers |
Re: BEST SV to start racing on
Comes down to preference and how much money you have to spend really. Personally I would go for (went for ) the pointy model (2003 onwards), get the newest you can afford.
Power is marginally the same between the two types but you'll get fuel injection on the pointy vs carbs on the older curvy model. Not entirely sure its a great idea to race a naked bike for the purpose of keeping costs down, yeah you wont need a fairing but you will need an oil catch tray/belly pan. If you slide off riding a naked you also run the risk of damaging something more expensive than a fairing as they do afford some protection to the frame/engine when sliding along. |

K4 model? K3 models had crank issues I think

Yes the K3s had rare issues with spitting rods out.
I'd go for the latest curvy you can find. Crash damaged one, stick a wee headlight fairing on it/fly screen. Curvy loom is absolutely piece of pi$$ to build a total loss/very trimmed down race loom for. I could probably do one in an afternoon and that's saying something. Save loads of weight. |

YC; what do you mean by "total loss"?

Total loss ignition system. Run the sparks off a battery. Save a kilo or so of alternator, reg rec and loads of wire.
