help with descktop pc
My son has killed the descktop pc. He is 8 years old but has been known to download games and alter things on the pc.
I don't know what he did yesterday but it would not reboot and said something about windows not being able to load due to something which I can't remember. No worries I thought, I will just reset to an earlier date. It has been ok in the past when he has done similar. No, I can't do that so I decide to use F11 and reset it to as it left the factory as there is nothing kept on it of any importance. Now, halfway through trying to reset everything I have a green screen with the following: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. The problem seems to be caused by the following file : nv4_disp If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps. The device driver got stuck in an infinate loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates. Technical information STOP 0x000000EA (0x8569FDA8, 0x85665B98, 0xF7A4DCBC, 0x0000001) nv4_disp begining dump of physical memory physical memory dump complete contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance. Now, the pc is a few years old so I don't have a technical support group to turn to so................... Oh mighty org, please help me sort out my lads pc. |
Re: help with descktop pc
Sounds like a bug in the display adapter driver
Uninstall your graphics card driver then reinstall the latest version downloaded from the manufacturer's website, most likely www.ati.com or www.nvidia.com edit: just saw you can't boot, can you boot in safe mode? (hit F8 (i think?) repeatedly while the computer starts up) |

Re: help with descktop pc
Go into safe mode (hold f8 on startup), Open control panel > add remove programs and uninstall everything which has Nvidia in the name
Then right click on my computer > properties > hardware> device manager Select display adapters and right click and uninstall anything under there. If your PC will load the display will be a low resolution version, Windows will try and reinstall the drivers for you, don't do this. Go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest drivers from there. Edit, you may want to download the Nvidia driver to a USB drive or CD on another PC first to save you messing about with blocky web pages |
Re: help with descktop pc
Unfortunately I cant get into safe mode.
When I press F8 the tower does its bit of whurring then on the screen I get: The system is not fully installed. Please run setup again..... |
Re: help with descktop pc
Press F8, select 'Last Known Good Configuration'
|
Re: help with descktop pc
Tried that. No joy.
I also have to press F1 during the start up process. Bloody thing, note to self, keep autistic 8 year old away from any chance of downloading anything in the future. |
