My 2000 Curvy in Lovely yellow!
 

Hi all, I have just bought a 2000 curvy in yellow, and was looking for some info. Its done 10k.

I want to change the oil and spark plugs.

Is there any thing else I should change whilst I'm at it, and do I need a paddock stand?

I'm gonna get the Haynes manual to do the bits. This is my first bike, but quite technically minded.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

hi mate-get the manual and check the schedule for whats needing done and what should have been done- if you don't know its history get everything checked for peace of mind.

get a paddock stand if you plan to do alot of work on it.
it makes life easier as it has no centre stand.
if you have the cash, abba stand is best. or it's paddock and head stock stand.

Don't really know the history to be honest. Is it better to get a garage to do the work? Brake fluid etc? As I want to start with it good, and keep on top of it myself.

+1 for the abba stand. even lets you strip off the swingarm if you are that way inclined. most routine servicing jobs are pretty straightforward on the the curvy, apart from access to the vacuum tube connection on the front carb. you'll see!! ;-) from personal experience there's nothing I've had to take it to the garage for yet, aside from the first time I changed the chain and sprockets. Even with a 24" breaker bar I couldn't shift the front sprocket. the folks on here are always full of good advice, and having a search through will usually turn up an answer before you need to ask

ps - if you need a manual www.carlsalter.com i know some folks don't like downloads like this but it's a lifesaver to have some reference material available at the click of a button

I'm just going to get me a paddosk stand, as it'll not be used too often. Would prefer to use hooks and bobbins though.

Where do to bobbins go? and will any universal paddock stand fit? (am thinking of this one)

Oil, oil filter and spark plugs are good to be changing. Also consider changing the brake fluid, and get the air filter out and blow any dirt off with an air line.

No harm in lubricating the clutch cable either, and just give the bike a once over, check for chaffing wires etc etc :)
