im going to york tomorrow to reccy the dales run i could go down the mway zzzzzzz or hit the 59 is there any dodgey bits, is it speed camera central, or will it take me 5hrs to get there

I've used it several times, couple of scamera vans seen around Clitheroe, traffic cops out pushing the Ride safe course in Gisburn. Othewise, it's a VERY fast, blast of a road. If you don't care about your licence, it's one of the fastest roads I know.

So, usual advice, look as far ahead as you can, keep the concentration up and be suspicious of anything parked at the side of the road, or any cars keeping up if you decide to boot it a bit!

Bonus dave, if you're coming straight over the a59, you'll eventually hit the outer york ring road - a much better meeting place than originally planned :D

After Skipton, beware of grey unmarked Golf on the Blubberhouses stretch; care needed on that stretch anyway - many car drivers gawping at scenery, and many accidents.
Jambuts are always around past Menwith (the 'golf balls'), but mainly for security.
Don't go through Harrogate: take B6161 after The Nelson Inn, then A61 and B6165 to Knaresboro' to rejoin the A59.
If you want a stonking diversion, take the A6055 north just before Knaresboro town centre, cross the A1(M) and take the B6265 south to rejoin then A59.
(Ideally, stay off the A59 after Blubberhouses...it's not that much fun. Take the Greenhow Rd left at Fewston, drive up to Greenhow and join the B6265. Then to Pateley and Ripon. see http://b6265.blogspot.com/)

North Yorkshire police have a dark green unmarked volvo estate, reg: au54 ayj

Also a dark blue unmarked volvo estate and graphite grey audi a4/s4 saloon, no reg on either yet but they're between 2004 & 2007, steady away :)
