steering head bearings... curvy

so, my bike failed its MOT on steering head bearings, and sure enough, they are well notchy!

So i bought some replacement taper rollers head bearings from WEMoto with the plan to fit them.

Anything i need to watch for or might have problems with? or is it simply wheel off, forks off, steering stem out, replace and refit?

ta :)

Should be straight forwad if you know what you're doing with replacing bearings. Only thing I found with mine were the tapered rollers saved a bit of space so there was a gap between the top locking nut and the yolk which I had to fit a crush washer to pad out.

I've fitted a few sets of taper rollers and never seen that problem dave. I presume you were sold the wrong bearings.

most likely
Ah well they do the job. They were cheap too (to say they're a decent brand).

I'd trust koyo or NGK, but I don't think the cheap brands make much difference unless you do a load of miles.

It was one of those two for definite, couldn't remember which so didn't say. Thinking it was the koyos.

Only thing to be weary of is removal and replacement. Like any bearings you need to take them out and fit them as even as possible, else you run the risk of damaging the housing or the bearings themselves.

Read a handy tip, Stick them in a freezer the night before you go to fit them, and they will go in easier.

It retracts the metal ever so slightly which is all you need to make the job just that little bit easier.
