I bought an SV.

Well everything went ok with the SV I was looking at the other day so I am now the proud owner of an '04 pointy in silver.

I think it is the 03 model though registered in 04. Is there an easy way to tell? And were there any/many differences between the 2?

Now to get on the scrounge for some parts! ha ha (seat cowl, hugger, radiator cover, bar end mirrors, fenda extenda, braided hoses etc etc)

Good lad sKiTz. You'll love it.

There are differences between the K3's and the K4-onwards but what they are is for wiser men than me to tell you.

welcome skitz.. good choice of bike..

from what i know (thats not a lot) the rear subframe sits a little higher on the K3 which gives you a slightly higher seat hight. but i think thats about it..

Yep, it also means the K3 seats are a one off and K4 onwards seats won't fit it.

I think the hugger mounting points are also slightly different but can be bodged to fit.

As far as I know, most other stuff should be the same.

what are the last six digits of the frame number?

Not sure on the frame number as she's tucked up for the night now. Will check tomorrow and post, or check the haynes manual when I lay my hands on one.

Tried to start her up before to get cleaning/lubing the chain up and there was no life at all. Grrrr. Battery was totally flat. Guy said it had been sat for a year though so to be expected really.

Stuck the batery on charge though overnight, but won't be able to test it as I'm in London all weekend to see Bob Dylan.

And to top it off, the weather is going to change for the worse at weekend. ho hum.

At least I'll be able to stick my hands free kit on and call for insurance quotes while I'm driving down to london in the car though so there are some positives. :)

Extract from the Haynes manual says...

SV650-K3 - 2003 - initial frame number JS1BY111200100001
SV650S-K3 - 2003 - initial frame number JS1BY132200100001
SV650-K4 - 2004 - initial frame number JS1BY111200100630
SV650S-K4 - 2004 - initial frame number JS1BY132200102282

...only 630 K3 nakeds made, surprising.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

K4 wasn't available in silver, so it's definitely a K3. The K4s also had the suzuki logo on the tank instead of the word "SUZUKI".
As others have stated, the rear subframe was redesigned lower from K4 onwards, so K3s have higher seats. The front seats aren't interchangeable, nor are the side panels, and I think the exhaust mount might be located differently. Also the gear lever linkage is different, I believe. The tool bag is under the rear seat on K3s but stashed in a separate compartment on K4s, and the fuse box is in its place. Thats all I can think of atm :takeabow:
