Emergancy Brake Clever Gearbox
 

Today i did a bit of an emergancy stop:help: (see nod or wave thread) the 1st on my sv. As I did the old front, back then clutch thing the gearbox semt to drop straight into 1st wiout me even movin my left foot.:smt017

Did i imagin this:confused: or is it a built in safety thing?

(this is my 1st big bike!!! so excuse me if this is a stupid question)

you probably kicked it down when your weight was thrown forward by braking. There's no such safety feature - being in 1st gear doesn't seem like a good idea in many emergency situations.

When i do Emergancy stops i pull everything and push down on everything.. some might say its bad as you can use engine breaking but its become second nature now and i cant help it.. lol

+1 on pushing it witout noticing when weight went forward :D

Nope there is no such feature. You can use full brakes in 6th gear with the clutch in and it will still be in 6th gear until you kick it down again.

I'v done a couple of emergency stops before and left it in 5th/6th as I have stopped.
On recovering after sitting at the side of the road and jumping back on the bike I'v papped myself as the bike would keep stalling trying to set off.
Woops forgot to change down the gears lol

I think it was perhaps a natural reaction with your foot. Maybe you subliminally reacted as you do at any normal controlled stop, go down the gear box....just sped up without you thinking it

I'm impressed, I always thought the habit of changing down whilst emergency braking was an art perfected over many years of dispatching. It allows the rider to make appropriate hand gestures at the cause of the emergency whilst accelerating away from the scene.

lol so I'm not the only one then:p
I've managed to do it since I did my DAS years ago. I always thought it was just panic reaction, but its good to be in the right gear to bugger off back on your way again
