rust removal

2 Attachment(s)
hi, how would i get rid of rust from the area on the first picture(is that part called the yoke)? saw a vid on youtube that used toothpaste lol but would that strip the paint away at the same time(if yoke is painted)?

i've now got some acf50 i will start using after i've removed rust. also the paint on the lower part of the forks is started to corrode(second picture). just use acf50? i don't want to do a respray just yet. cheers

Re: rust removal

that is called the lower or bottom yoke, ideally you would want to remove it and clean it up with a wire brush then repaint with hammerite or an equivalent.

Mines like that as well, ideally you'd want to sit the bike on a couple of stands and strip the front end and clean it properly.

was afraid of that. haven't really got what i need to do that as i would to support the bike from the centre under the sump so i could drop the front forks. plus i would never trust myself to get all the bit's back together safely.
wouldn't it be easier to strip the front fairing off to gain access to the area? stop short of removing the clocks though. i've got limited space plus i've no garage so would be working outside so would be best to get job done in 1 day. what products can you buy to help remove rust?

If its a fairy bike you can't see it... just hit it with some black moly and it'll be fine.

Otherwise, get a wire brush on a drill, then mask off and spray it with simonez 5 wheel silver.

yeah it's a fairy so it's hidden. may just keep sticking acf50 on it for now. i should of took proper care of the thing during the winter instead or riding it then sticking it in the old dears garage for 5 odd months. doh
