Clunk noise
 

Hi there,

I have recently noticed a "clunk" noise comming from the engine area of my k4 sv650s. It sounds as if its comming from near my left foot, but i could be wrong. The clunk happens when i am gently pulling away, and sometimes when accelerating from say 20mph. There is just one clunk noise, not a series of them. I have checked chain tension and thats fine, so any other ideas or suggestions would be most apreciated.

Sorry for the bad explanation but its quite hard to explain.

Loose sprocket nut? If so yours would not be the first.

Hi Ive just checked the front sprocket nut and its fine. Any other ideas?

Uhm if it aint broke don't fix it..:D perhaps you didn't notice it before, maybe cam-chain or something? :x

Doubt it would be cam chain, I have done some experimenting and i have a feeling the problem is clutch related. while moving along slowly if i let the clutch out fairly quick, then in, then out again fairly quick i get a repeated "clunk".

It feels almost as if the chain snags.

Any ideas?

Kusch drive rubbers may be worn (if thats how it's spelt), my wifes hornet had a similar thing, easy way to check is to raise the back wheel off the floor, stick the bike in first (engine off), and rotate the wheel forwards and backwards, listen and look to see if there is any freeplay between the sprocket carrier and the wheel. if you cant raise the bike up you might be able to check by "wiggeling" the sprocket with the bike on its stand.

If they do turn out to be loose (worn), dont buy new ones, cut up a piece of inner tube and use this to pack the rubbers, it works a treat (and its free if you have an old tube)

checked cush drive rubbers and they are also fine, not sure what else to look for, could it be engine internal issues?
