rear brake master cylinder push rod

guys need your help. after my prang last month I need to replace the push rod which has been bent out of shape. is it easiest to replace the whole m/cylinder or can I replace just the rod? I have a whole replacement m/cylinder but it seems a bit too much like hard work to fanny about with replacing the whole thing for the sake of a small threaded rod. either way, I need advice and guidance on how to do it cos I'm still learning!

you can just change the push rod, but to do so will reqiure you to drain the master cylinder, so it's as much work as just changing it.

However if that is your intent, peel back the dust boot and under it you'll find a circlip which needs removing, take care as the piston and spring will also come out at the same time. don't be tempted to wipe the componance down with a rag, but rather wash them in clean brake fluid instead.

Cheers Mark.

rictus cheers. can I not just clamp the pipes?

Even if you clamp the pipes you'll still lose the fluid out of the M/C since the piston will probably come out so you might as well do it right and stick some fresh fluid in, it's hardly hard work.

that's what I want to hear "hardly hard work"!

was easier to replace the whole master cylinder in the end. all sorted and didn't have to drain the reservoir either. will change the fluid in the normal way.
