Never had a big bike
Will i be ok on this bike
hi Guys, I have just passed my Resticted 33BHP licence. I was going to get the NINJA 250r but it just went up in price by nearly 500-600 pounds. My pervious bike was a Hyosung xrx 125 Enduro type and i ridden this for 2 years. i have never been on a bike over a 125cc but because of the price increase of the 250r i have been looking at the SV650 i am 6"2 and i went to the dealers the other day and sat on the SV650 and didnt think it was to heavy but what about the power will this bike pull my arms off or will i be ok if i take it easy ?? i am quite confident driver but i dont want to buy a bike im not going to be able to drive... But i do really really like this bike with all the Farings cheers guys any advice would be appreciated |
Re: Never had a big bike
you'll be fine. It only goes fast if you twist the throttle too far. So don't :p
As long as you can reach the ground ok, I can't think of any other reason why it'd bite you... the power delivery is predictable and there's plenty of torque, so you can limit yourself (if you need to) just by riding it at lower revs. |
Re: Never had a big bike
Had the same problem as you mate, was actually worried about the power. It is nothing to fear and as Ophic says, the throttle does return.
I actually used to get off and push my bike round one specific junction as it was very fast traffic to pull into and was a steep uphill junction onto a level main road. V,v difficult at first and nerve racking. Your 6"2', I'm maybe a little shorter, I am fine size wise with the weight and handling. Just take it steady. Welcome to the site by the way. |
Re: Never had a big bike
your arms won't get pulled off unless you ask the bike to do it :-)
The SV is a very forgiving bike for someones first big bike, it will let you make mistakes, and pull you out of them, but as with all bikes, sometimes it won't. |

Best advice is to get the lowers and then take them odd and store them - they are expensive to repair IF you drop the bike, but thats just me being cautious. Alternatively take them off and you will get about £300 minimum for them on ebay..... |
Re: Never had a big bike
thanks for the advice guys think i am just going to go for it when i find the right one at the right price .... is it ok to post adverts on here from like the biketrader website so i can get some advice from you guys who own this bike ?

Re: Never had a big bike
Not necessarily gonna be on this site because they have an SV.
I reccomend you add your location (town) where you are so that people may even make an offer to come and look a bike over with you. By all means, post links up, people will be willing to give you advice. There may even be one or two on the for sale section, if you don't mind stating, post your rough budget and people may be able to help you out. Stu |

Just post links rather than full ads, and maybe collect 5 at a time to post at once and I cant see anyone complaining. Also look in the For Sale section on here - usually something being sold. |

As Plowsie says, fill in a bit more info in your profile and I am sure somebody local will go along with you to give a 2nd opinion on what your looking at. |
Re: Never had a big bike
I would not worry about the power of the SV. I went straight from only 8 months on a 125 to my SV. Although it feels immense compared to a 125 you'll soon know where to take it easy. Just don't twist the throttle more than you feel comfortable.
Sure you'll be fine, especially with your two years on a 125. Welcome to the org as well BTW. |
