Watermarked CDs

Hey guys - I write for www.contactmusic.com and am about to get given a whole bunch of watermarked CDs, Green Day, Mars Volta, Enter Shikari, Billy Talent - cds that aren't out yet. Now they're going to be watermarked- I know if I upload them it's traceable, but apparantly I can't even rip them to my iPod? Does anyone know if that's true?

Cheers in advance!

Just get a wire to plug the headphones from one cd player in to the mic of your pc.

You not got a computer that doesn't have internet access as well? then its defiantly not traceable. In the strict eyes of the law you cant rip a CD to your computer, you're supposed to pay again for it but theres about a 0.00000000001% of you being prosecuted for it and even less of actually being convicted.

Not true. Not easily tracable, yes, I'll give you.

Not true. When something has been commercially released, you are legally permitted to make one backup copy for your own personal use solely. Distribution is where the problem starts.

To the OP: If you want to transfer to your iPod, I suggest you do this:
- Connect CD player to mic input on computer.
- Download Audacity (ironic huh?) & set this to record whilst you play each track. Audacity will happily output to MP3 format. Once completed, store the CD somewhere safe.
- Transfer to iPod.
- Delete from computer.
- Remove files from the iPod (without "backing up") when you're done.

I'll put the next bit in bold. Do not be tempted to share watermarked content with anyone else. With enough resource/money from the copyright owner, you will get caught.

Forgetting that bit in bold for a second, do it, and TSM will get ya. ;)
