3 weeks and crashed!:(
Hi there,
Bit of an odd post to start off a new thread, but I got some great advice on here when seeking advice on the tyres on my SV650s ('03) I've owned for a month... I was out a week ago, hit a patch of gravel in the middle of the road and the bike went from under me. I ended up with a broken collar bone and have just had an operation on it to put it back together... that said, I'm onto the misson of repairing the bike. Unlike me, It's got reasonable superficial damage (As far as I can tell) and it's only insured TPf&T so there's no logic in me claiming as there was nobody else involved. I could do with a recommendation as to how to go about getting the bike repaired, or certianly a more experienced eye looking over it. The damage seems contained to: Damaged fairing, (paint-job), broken rear brake lever, rubber throttle grip, and an indicator... and a huge dent in the tank. Any suggestions (I'm Liverpool based) would be appreciated... I've only been riding a short while, so not really where to go from here! Thanks, (in advance) Dean |

Replacement tank, (i think like £250 new or cheaper used of fleabay..)
fairly easy swap, just make sure when you put the hoses back on they go in the right place. Take a photo beforehand and mark the tubes with numbers. Replacement bikini fairings are hard to find? (i've never seen any) take it to a crash repair place and see if they can fix it. If it's lower fairings just sell them for like £50 and buy a bellypan. Fit some heated grip and a new set of indicators and you're sorted for around £300. or take it to a suzuki dealer for a no hassle but more expensive job. don't let the crash put you off, learn from the mistakes and move on, even monkies fall from trees. |
Re: 3 weeks and crashed!:(
firstly take the fairings off, you now have a naked thats one problem solved!
new tank on ebay that will cost about £100 the rest is easy replace. |
Re: 3 weeks and crashed!:(
Jeepers, sorry to hear of the off and the broken shoulder blade. That cant be fun.
I know we have a few members over you way so i hope one of them can make the time to pop over and check the bike over fror you. The good news is you're here and you havent said the bike looks twsited or bent or the forks are bent so anything else if fairly easy / cheap-ish to replace. |
Re: 3 weeks and crashed!:(
Congrats, I did a similar thing apart from the bike was near dead too :thumright:
If I were you I'd get nicer aftermarket indicators (£30 all round) Second hand tank'll be about £60-£100 but it'll take some finding to get a nice one in your colour other option would be to fill and spray it which would be between £50-£100 I'd say. Second hand brake lever would be £5-£20 more like £15 for a decent one. Source them off ebay or this forum. Member called husky03 is very useful on the parts front. If it's just the paint on the panels get 'em sprayed it's not too expensive if you take it to the right place. |
Re: 3 weeks and crashed!:(
Ooh.. replies already!. Thanks folks.. - Yeah, the accident sucks, but it could have been a lot worse... Thanks to my leathers and lid, I came out of it a lot better than I could have! -
Another person having a look would certainly put my mind at rest. As for the damage (pics attached hopefully) then the fairings aren't damaged. Just scratched to buggery! The bike had a short low-speed slide along the deck before stopping (tank first I guess) on the central reservation. http://www.deanpendleton.com/tempimg/DSCF0601.JPGhttp://www.deanpendleton.com/tempimg/DSCF0603.JPGhttp://www.deanpendleton.com/tempimg/DSCF0604.JPGhttp://www.deanpendleton.com/tempimg/DSCF0605.JPGhttp://www.deanpendleton.com/tempimg/DSCF0606.JPGhttp://www.deanpendleton.com/tempimg/DSCF0607.JPGhttp://www.deanpendleton.com/tempimg/DSCF0600.JPG |
Re: 3 weeks and crashed!:(
looks like you went pretty far. Find a good sprayer, some indicators, brake lever and possibly a new tank. Leathers are useful bet your glad you were in them. Serious recommendation get some good crashbungs (from sv racing off ebay). Probably would have saved a lot of damage.

Re: 3 weeks and crashed!:(
maybe longer crash bungs just incase would be a good investment, im not sure what would be said about them forks without looking down them, with them scratchs there.

Re: 3 weeks and crashed!:(
Yeah, Thanks for the advice so far peeps, much appreciated.
I'm not 100% sure about the forks either, the damage does seem to have come up worse on the pics... I am searching ebay atm for bits... May just send it over to a dealers for peace of mind at the very least. |
