5w indicator bulbs = too fast !! help
firts of all sorry guys I'm sure this has been asked 1 million times. But as some will be aware I'm putting my mini twin race bike back on the road. (nearly there actually)
Last night I fitted my indicators. I expected them to flash fast as they are only 5w bulbs. and they did. On other bikes I've fitted a wide band flasher relay and that's sorted the prob. But on the sv isn't it in the black plastic box and filled with resin so you can't get at it? I'm sure I can fix the prob by soldering a resistor in line. so I tryed a 100 ohm (the only 1s I have) and it was too much and wouldn't flash. I'm sure people normally use a 10p resistors instead of £15 wide band relays ?? Any body got any ideas ? ebay has loads of resistors at £1 for 10. Cheers lads, Boo86. |

Resistors would sort the issue - but they dissipate a large amount of power so you shouldn't use the cheap 10p ones as they will blow. Go to Hein Gericke and get some power resistors - I think they're only about £3 each. Even these get hot though.
I'm pretty sure some people have changed the relay so it must be possible. The normal indicators are 21W - could you replace the bulbs with these? The only other trick i can think of is to wire up some normal 21W indicator bulbs somewhere where they won't be seen - instead of the resistor, effectively. Works just as well but watch the heat. Oh and the resistors have to be in parallel with the bulb, not in line. |

Hi Boo86
Are you sure BOTH bulbs on each side are flashing - a fast rate is the first sign that one of the bulbs aint working. From the look of your post this is like teaching Gran to suck eggs, but sometimes the causes are the simplest! |

You can get a flasher relay from loads of places online, or even in Halfords. As you say its not just a plug in job (as it was on my Z750 - 30 seconds to swap the flasher......) but its just a case of getting any flasher, taking 2 wires from the fusebox than connecting it up. I put pictures up on a similar thread a couple of weeks ago - try the search function to find them. |

so this chap wired in between the fuse box and the indicators ???

Cheers lads, all sorted now thanks to Mr. Halfords. I'm £20 lighter though robbing Ba£$%rds. You don't even need to cut and solder any wires as the female clips pull out of the back of the fuse holder and mate perfectly with the males supplied on the new flasher unit, see pic.
