Fitting an endless chain.
 

just got a new chain - Regina brand

it isn't broken/open, just one complete loop

-is it possible to squeeze it on without breaking/opening the chain? i don't think so, but just thought i'd ask!

you can either break and rejoin the chain or remove the swing arm. chain is easier although not if you dont have the correct tools knowledge. might be simpler to take it along to your local bike mechanic and ask him/her to fit it for you.

Yup - you can get an endless chain onto the bike but to do it you need to drop the swing arm. Not too difficult if you have the correct tools, special socket for the swingarm pivot bolt locknut, and a stand that doesn't use the swing arm to support the bike. Its also a good chance to grease up the swing arm pivot bearings as if this hasn't been done for a while they will likely be lacking grease.

Otherwise break the chain, install it, and use a spring clip to ride to your local tyre place/mechanic to get the chain rivetted properly (or do it yourself - personally this is one job I like to get done by a professional though).

sounds like dropping the swingarm would be even more of a faffle than breaking the chain
spose i'll just swallow my pride and take it to me mechanic :(

a nice mechanic will brake the chain for you it must have a fish link (or what ever they are called init) other wise i dont see how you will do it seems to much effort taking the bike apart when you can just brake the chain :P

Get the swingarm off - inspect the bearings, and then grease them properly, as well as the other linkages. This would be a really really good job to do, as it is widely noted that suzuki (and many manufactures) are scared of using grease :rolleyes:

i bought the chain here - louis.de (you did ask....) 105 € for chain and 2 sprokets delivered to my house (in barcelona:cool:)

well, i wouldn't mind dismantling and greasing up the swingarm pivot - anyone know where there's a nice (photo heavy) tutorial on how to do it??¿

looks like the swingarm might have to come off...

any idea which bearings will/might have to be replaced ? can i just pump them full of grease?

the bike has 63,000km......
