Where's neutral?
 

Sorry if i am asking a reapeated question. Im new to biking, the sv650 99 naked being my first one so maybe i'm not used to the bike? I find it almost impossible to find neutral gear with the bike running, but stop the engine and its much easier to find? I dont want to be stopping and starting every time i ride. So is it me or the bike.:confused: I ask before i spend a fortune in a garage....:(

Ok, good question

firstly, clean the chain (with parraffin), then lubricate it (with something like silkolene chain lube), and finally adjust it so the slack is approximatly 25-30 mm when the bike is on the sidestand.

Do this, see how it feels, and get back to us :D

I'd give this thread a read http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=120718 might give you some help.

It should be easy to get it into neutral when engine is running. Just a gentle tap up on the gear changer from first.

If you think its something wrong with the bike, i'd recommend doing an oil and filter change first. That'll most likely cure the problem. Its a pretty simple job to do. I'm a novice and managed to do it. Although i did flood my garage floor with oil :)

take front sprocket cover off(that plastic thing) clean up all the sh1te from behind it. A magnet for a concoction of chain oil, road crap and rubber dust off the rear tyre.
That could help(has done me before)
Make sure you clutch is properly adjusted too

I had this, turned out the clutch needed adjusting as the biting point was right at the grip, now its fine!

Hmm clutch, the bike does pull a little when clutch is pulled right in. But i was told that was due to thick oil drag or somthing? I will try everyone's suggestions (when i understand the manual?) and see what happens Thanks. :)

The very first thing I check (cause it is the easiest by far and more often than not the most likely suspect) is the oil. Too high or too low and you will get gear changing issues.

swollocks(whoever said that?):shock:

may need an oil change, then a small adjustment on the clutch. It shouldn't pull. I have a habit of not liking the proper set up( I like it right out, as my girly hands think that the clutch feels heavy), and YC is always changing it, as it starts to pull in this manner.
